The Innocence of Adolescence

After careful consideration and many sleepless nights, here’s what I have decided. There is no such thing as a grownup. We move on. We move out. We move away from our families and form our own. The basic insecurities, the basic fears and all the old wounds that grow up with us make us believe we have outgrown as a responsible adult.

But just when we think, that life and circumstances have forced us to truly once and for all become an adult, your mother says something like this.

MotherDaughter

We get bigger; we get taller; we get older but most of the time, we are still a bunch of kids running around the playground trying desperately to fit in. Well, I have heard it’s possible to grow up. I have just never met anyone who has.

Without parents to define the lines for us, we break the rules we make for ourselves. We throw tantrums when things don’t go our way. We whisper secrets with our best friends in dark. We look for comfort where ever we can find it.

And, we still keep hoping against all the hopes and keep thinking against all logic. Like children, we never give up. And that my friend, is the innocence of adolescence.
